Events and Competitions
There are a range of festivals and competitions scheduled across South Ayrshire for the coming academic year covering a wide variety of sports for pupils across the Marr College cluster.
Priority to each festival, sports clubs will deliver curricular sessions to prepare children and young people for the events, ensuring they have a really positive experience.
We also plan and deliver a local festival programme across Troon making it easier for young people to take part within their own community.
Active Communities
Our Active Communities programme offers a wide range of free and low cost opportunities for children, young people and adults to be active. There is something for everyone, no matter your age or ability!
Our qualified coaches deliver a variety of activities across venues in South Ayrshire – including table tennis, handball and basketball.
Sports Leaders
As part of the school curriculum P.E Departments are running multiple Sports Leader qualifications. The Sports Leader and Sport and Recreation qualifications has been very popular within our secondary schools. We have been working with PE Departments to develop the course over the past few years. The senior pupils are currently learning to assist with activity sessions, creating fitness programmes and daily centre duties within the school, primary schools and leisure community setting. Active Schools work with PE in the organising employment opportunities in the sport and recreation industry by offering the leaders opportunities to develop their career in sport.
The Active Schools team have also been working to further upskill the young people by running Leadership Development Days where the leaders have been able to achieve a further 6 workshops and qualifications.
Sports leaders have also been helping deliver transition events within their secondary schools. Transition events are important for primary 6 and 7 pupils, giving them the opportunity to get access to the PE department, meet staff and meet new pupils from their local cluster before bump up days within the schools.
