Coaching Academy

The Coaching Academy programme is an educational programme which provides young people with the opportunity to become young leaders in sport and physical activity.

South Ayrshire pupils are given the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and gain experience of coaching in a variety of Active School settings.

There are two levels with the Coaching Academy which allows pupils in S3 and S5 to participate over a two-year period. Applications open in February each year to S2 and S4 pupils to apply.

Silver Level

The first step in the Coaching Academy programme which runs over 2 years. Applications open to S2 pupils each year in February. The silver programme will run until pupils are finishing S4. Coaching Academy pupils will gain a SCQF level 4 or 5 in Sports Leadership. Coaching Academy pupils are given the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and experience of coaching young people. As part of the Coaching Academy pupils will be able to support events and gain a number of additional qualifications such as Heart Start, Athletics Leadership and Multi Sports Fundamentals.

Gold Level

Gold Coaching Academy programme is a step up from the Silver programme and requires commitment and organisation to take part in the 2 year long programme. Applications open to S4 pupils each year in February. The Gold programme will run until pupils are finishing S6. Coaching Academy pupils will gain a SCQF level 5 or 6 in Sports Leadership. Coaching Academy pupils are given the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and experience of coaching young people. As part of the Coaching Academy pupils will be able experience new skills such as mental health awareness, disability inclusion, first aid and employability workshops. Leaders will begin to gain a more sport specific knowledge. Gold leaders will complete placements in primary schools, secondary schools and community sessions.
